But the midwives feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt had commanded, but saved the men children.

Reflection for Today

The Church sets before us Exodus 1:17: “But the midwives feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt had commanded, but saved the men children.”

Exodus is part of the long story of salvation. Catholics receive it as inspired Scripture, a word that prepares the heart for Christ and still nourishes the Church. Peace is one of the first things anxiety steals. Christ does not deny our storms; He offers a peace that can remain even while the waves are still high.

Today's invitation under the theme of Salvation is simple and serious. If possible, bring this line to Mass or to a brief visit before the Blessed Sacrament. Let Christ finish in silence what the verse began in your thoughts.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, Word made flesh, You still teach Your disciples through Sacred Scripture. Through Exodus 1:17, let “But the midwives feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt had commanded, but…” become more than a memory. Make it light for my work, patience for my home, and courage for my vocation. Amen.
