Deuteronomy 34:1

Reflection for Today

Let Deuteronomy 34:1 speak first, before our plans and worries do: “Then Moses went up from the plains of Moab upon mount Nebo, to the top of Phasga over against Jericho: and the Lord shewed him all the land of Galaad as far as Dan.”

Scripture rarely flatters us. It loves us enough to tell the truth, and then it stays with us while we learn to live that truth. Deuteronomy is part of the long story of salvation. Catholics receive it as inspired Scripture, a word that prepares the heart for Christ and still nourishes the Church.

As you hold this verse, do not force a dramatic feeling. Ask only for faithfulness. If the verse consoles you, do not rush past the comfort. Gratitude is also a form of obedience.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, Word made flesh, You still teach Your disciples through Sacred Scripture. Through Deuteronomy 34:1, let “Then Moses went up from the plains of Moab upon mount Nebo, to the top of Phasga…” become more than a memory. Make it light for my work, patience for my home, and courage for my vocation. Amen.
