Theme: Daily Scripture
“And Saul swore unto her by the Lord, saying: As the Lord liveth, there shall no evil happen to thee for this thing.”
Reflection for Today
The Church sets before us 1 Samuel 28:10: “And Saul swore unto her by the Lord, saying: As the Lord liveth, there shall no evil happen to thee for this thing.”
1 Samuel is part of the long story of salvation. Catholics receive it as inspired Scripture, a word that prepares the heart for Christ and still nourishes the Church. The Catholic way of reading is never solitary for long. We read with the Church, with the saints, and with the poor Christ still loves.
As you hold this verse, do not force a dramatic feeling. Ask only for faithfulness. Pray a decade of the Rosary with this verse in mind. Ask Mary to teach you how to keep God's word and ponder it, as she did.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, Word made flesh, You still teach Your disciples through Sacred Scripture. Through 1 Samuel 28:10, let “And Saul swore unto her by the Lord, saying: As the Lord liveth, there shall no evil…” become more than a memory. Make it light for my work, patience for my home, and courage for my vocation. Amen.
