And Achis believed David, saying: He hath done much harm to his people Israel: Therefore he shall be my servant for ever.

1 Samuel 27:12

Reflection for Today

The Church sets before us 1 Samuel 27:12: “And Achis believed David, saying: He hath done much harm to his people Israel: Therefore he shall be my servant for ever.”

Faith is not pretending we have no questions. It is trusting Christ enough to keep walking while the answers are still unfinished. 1 Samuel is part of the long story of salvation. Catholics receive it as inspired Scripture, a word that prepares the heart for Christ and still nourishes the Church.

Today's invitation under the theme of Faith is simple and serious. If possible, bring this line to Mass or to a brief visit before the Blessed Sacrament. Let Christ finish in silence what the verse began in your thoughts.

Prayer

Father of mercies, I bring You this day and this verse from 1 Samuel 27:12. As I listen to “And Achis believed David, saying: He hath done much harm to his people Israel:…,” heal what is anxious in me, correct what is proud, and strengthen what is willing to love. Amen.
