Creation

On the first day of the week, a psalm for David. The earth is the Lord's and the fulness thereof: the world, and all they that dwell therein.

Psalms 23:1

Reflection for Today

Let Psalms 23:1 speak first, before our plans and worries do: “On the first day of the week, a psalm for David. The earth is the Lord's and the fulness thereof: the world, and all they that dwell therein.”

Scripture rarely flatters us. It loves us enough to tell the truth, and then it stays with us while we learn to live that truth. The Psalms have given voice to every mood of the believer: praise, tears, trust, and longing. What Israel prayed, the Church still sings.

God often changes us less by thunder and more by a line of Scripture that will not leave us alone. Before the day runs away, sit with this verse for two quiet minutes. Say it slowly. Notice which word stays warm in the heart, and carry that word into one conversation.

Prayer

Father of mercies, I bring You this day and this verse from Psalms 23:1. As I listen to “On the first day of the week, a psalm for David. The earth is the Lord's and the…,” heal what is anxious in me, correct what is proud, and strengthen what is willing to love. Amen.
