Theme: Daily Scripture

PrayerWork & Service

And if any man shall ask you: Why do you loose him? You shall say thus unto him: Because the Lord hath need of his service.

Luke 19:31

Reflection for Today

Pause with Luke 19:31. Hear these words again: “And if any man shall ask you: Why do you loose him? You shall say thus unto him: Because the Lord hath need of his service.”

Luke does not give us a distant memory of Jesus. It places us in His company, where every word can become prayer. Scripture rarely flatters us. It loves us enough to tell the truth, and then it stays with us while we learn to live that truth.

Today's invitation under the theme of Daily Scripture is simple and serious. If the verse convicts you, do not panic. Take it to Confession when you can, or begin with an honest Act of Contrition tonight.

Prayer

Come, Holy Spirit. Open the Scriptures to me as You opened them to the apostles. In Luke 19:31 I hear, “And if any man shall ask you: Why do you loose him? You shall say thus unto him:…” Give me understanding, give me desire, and give me the grace to obey with joy. Amen.
