Pause with Jeremiah 19:12. Hear these words again: “Thus will I do to this place, saith the Lord, and to the inhabitants thereof: and I will make this city as Topheth.”
In Jeremiah, the prophetic word unsettles comfort and awakens hope. God loves His people enough to call them back, and enough to promise a future. Read in Catholic faith, this is not a decorative sentence for social media. It is a living word meant to convert, console, and send us back into ordinary life with a quieter heart.
God often changes us less by thunder and more by a line of Scripture that will not leave us alone. If the verse convicts you, do not panic. Take it to Confession when you can, or begin with an honest Act of Contrition tonight.
Prayer
Father of mercies, I bring You this day and this verse from Jeremiah 19:12. As I listen to “Thus will I do to this place, saith the Lord, and to the inhabitants thereof: and I…,” heal what is anxious in me, correct what is proud, and strengthen what is willing to love. Amen.
