Theme: Work & Service
“A workman that is a drunkard shall not be rich: and he that contemneth small things, shall fall by little and little.”
Reflection for Today
The Church sets before us Sirach 19:1: “A workman that is a drunkard shall not be rich: and he that contemneth small things, shall fall by little and little.”
Sirach belongs to the wisdom books, where faith meets daily decisions. Holiness is not only for extraordinary moments; it is learned in ordinary choices. Read in Catholic faith, this is not a decorative sentence for social media. It is a living word meant to convert, console, and send us back into ordinary life with a quieter heart.
As you hold this verse, do not force a dramatic feeling. Ask only for faithfulness. If the verse convicts you, do not panic. Take it to Confession when you can, or begin with an honest Act of Contrition tonight.
Prayer
Holy Trinity, I receive today's verse with the Church. Keep Sirach 19:1 close to me. Let “A workman that is a drunkard shall not be rich: and he that contemneth small things,…” guard my thoughts from morning until night, and let my life quietly agree with Your word. Amen.
