Pause with 1 Chronicles 19:11. Hear these words again: “And the rest of the people he delivered into the hand of Abisai his brother, and they went against the children of Ammon.”
The Catholic way of reading is never solitary for long. We read with the Church, with the saints, and with the poor Christ still loves. 1 Chronicles is part of the long story of salvation. Catholics receive it as inspired Scripture, a word that prepares the heart for Christ and still nourishes the Church.
God often changes us less by thunder and more by a line of Scripture that will not leave us alone. Pray a decade of the Rosary with this verse in mind. Ask Mary to teach you how to keep God's word and ponder it, as she did.

Father of mercies, I bring You this day and this verse from 1 Chronicles 19:11. As I listen to “And the rest of the people he delivered into the hand of Abisai his brother, and…,” heal what is anxious in me, correct what is proud, and strengthen what is willing to love. Amen.
