Theme: Daily Scripture

Prayer

Therefore thus saith the Lord: Ask among the nations: Who hath heard such horrible things, as the virgin of Israel hath done to excess?

Jeremiah 18:13

Reflection for Today

Today's Catholic verse of the day is Jeremiah 18:13: “Therefore thus saith the Lord: Ask among the nations: Who hath heard such horrible things, as the virgin of Israel hath done to excess?”

Scripture rarely flatters us. It loves us enough to tell the truth, and then it stays with us while we learn to live that truth. In Jeremiah, the prophetic word unsettles comfort and awakens hope. God loves His people enough to call them back, and enough to promise a future.

As you hold this verse, do not force a dramatic feeling. Ask only for faithfulness. Pray a decade of the Rosary with this verse in mind. Ask Mary to teach you how to keep God's word and ponder it, as she did.

Prayer

Lord God, thank You for speaking through Jeremiah 18:13. You said, “Therefore thus saith the Lord: Ask among the nations: Who hath heard such horrible…” I do not want to rush past these words. Quiet my mind, warm my heart, and help me live what I have heard with faith, hope, and charity. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
