Even a fool, if he will hold his peace, shall be counted wise: and if he close his lips, a man of understanding.

Proverbs 17:28

Reflection for Today

Pause with Proverbs 17:28. Hear these words again: “Even a fool, if he will hold his peace, shall be counted wise: and if he close his lips, a man of understanding.”

Proverbs belongs to the wisdom books, where faith meets daily decisions. Holiness is not only for extraordinary moments; it is learned in ordinary choices. Many of us carry quiet fear into work, family, and prayer. This verse does not shame that fear. It invites us to bring it into the light of God.

God often changes us less by thunder and more by a line of Scripture that will not leave us alone. If the verse convicts you, do not panic. Take it to Confession when you can, or begin with an honest Act of Contrition tonight.

Prayer

Father of mercies, I bring You this day and this verse from Proverbs 17:28. As I listen to “Even a fool, if he will hold his peace, shall be counted wise: and if he close his…,” heal what is anxious in me, correct what is proud, and strengthen what is willing to love. Amen.
