The Church sets before us 1 Kings 17:24: “And the woman said to Elias: Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and the word of the Lord in thy mouth is true.”
1 Kings is part of the long story of salvation. Catholics receive it as inspired Scripture, a word that prepares the heart for Christ and still nourishes the Church. The Catholic way of reading is never solitary for long. We read with the Church, with the saints, and with the poor Christ still loves.
