Theme: Daily Scripture
“Thou shalt not sacrifice to the Lord thy God a sheep, or an ox, wherein there is blemish, or any fault: for that is an abomination to the Lord thy God.”
Reflection for Today
The Church sets before us Deuteronomy 17:1: “Thou shalt not sacrifice to the Lord thy God a sheep, or an ox, wherein there is blemish, or any fault: for that is an abomination to the Lord thy God.”
A single verse can meet us differently depending on the season we are in: grief, gratitude, fatigue, or new beginnings. Deuteronomy is part of the long story of salvation. Catholics receive it as inspired Scripture, a word that prepares the heart for Christ and still nourishes the Church.
As you hold this verse, do not force a dramatic feeling. Ask only for faithfulness. Before the day runs away, sit with this verse for two quiet minutes. Say it slowly. Notice which word stays warm in the heart, and carry that word into one conversation.
Prayer
Lord God, thank You for speaking through Deuteronomy 17:1. You said, “Thou shalt not sacrifice to the Lord thy God a sheep, or an ox, wherein there is…” I do not want to rush past these words. Quiet my mind, warm my heart, and help me live what I have heard with faith, hope, and charity. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
