Theme: Daily Scripture
“Now Ptolemee, the son of Abobus, was appointed captain in the plain of Jericho, and he had abundance of silver and gold.”
Reflection for Today
The Church sets before us 1 Maccabees 16:11: “Now Ptolemee, the son of Abobus, was appointed captain in the plain of Jericho, and he had abundance of silver and gold.”
1 Maccabees, received in the Catholic canon, shows courage, fidelity, and providence when God's people are tested. The Catholic way of reading is never solitary for long. We read with the Church, with the saints, and with the poor Christ still loves.
As you hold this verse, do not force a dramatic feeling. Ask only for faithfulness. Pray a decade of the Rosary with this verse in mind. Ask Mary to teach you how to keep God's word and ponder it, as she did.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, Word made flesh, You still teach Your disciples through Sacred Scripture. Through 1 Maccabees 16:11, let “Now Ptolemee, the son of Abobus, was appointed captain in the plain of Jericho, and…” become more than a memory. Make it light for my work, patience for my home, and courage for my vocation. Amen.
