Reflection for Today
Let Jeremiah 16:21 speak first, before our plans and worries do: “Therefore behold I will this once cause them to know, I will shew them my hand and my power: and they shall know that my name is the Lord.”
Scripture rarely flatters us. It loves us enough to tell the truth, and then it stays with us while we learn to live that truth. In Jeremiah, the prophetic word unsettles comfort and awakens hope. God loves His people enough to call them back, and enough to promise a future.
Today's invitation under the theme of Daily Scripture is simple and serious. Pray a decade of the Rosary with this verse in mind. Ask Mary to teach you how to keep God's word and ponder it, as she did.
Prayer
Father of mercies, I bring You this day and this verse from Jeremiah 16:21. As I listen to “Therefore behold I will this once cause them to know, I will shew them my hand and…,” heal what is anxious in me, correct what is proud, and strengthen what is willing to love. Amen.
