Reflection for Today

Today's Catholic verse of the day is 2 Samuel 16:9: “And Abisai the son of Sarvia said to the king: Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? I will go, and cut off his head.”

2 Samuel is part of the long story of salvation. Catholics receive it as inspired Scripture, a word that prepares the heart for Christ and still nourishes the Church. A single verse can meet us differently depending on the season we are in: grief, gratitude, fatigue, or new beginnings.

Today's invitation under the theme of Daily Scripture is simple and serious. If possible, bring this line to Mass or to a brief visit before the Blessed Sacrament. Let Christ finish in silence what the verse began in your thoughts.

Prayer

Come, Holy Spirit. Open the Scriptures to me as You opened them to the apostles. In 2 Samuel 16:9 I hear, “And Abisai the son of Sarvia said to the king: Why should this dead dog curse my…” Give me understanding, give me desire, and give me the grace to obey with joy. Amen.
