“And Othoniel the son of Cenez, the younger brother of Caleb, took it: and he gave him Axa his daughter to wife.”
Reflection for Today
Pause with Joshua 15:17. Hear these words again: “And Othoniel the son of Cenez, the younger brother of Caleb, took it: and he gave him Axa his daughter to wife.”
Joshua is part of the long story of salvation. Catholics receive it as inspired Scripture, a word that prepares the heart for Christ and still nourishes the Church. Scripture rarely flatters us. It loves us enough to tell the truth, and then it stays with us while we learn to live that truth.
If nothing else remains from this page, let one phrase of Joshua 15:17 remain. Write one sentence of response in a notebook or phone note: what you hear God asking, promising, or healing. Then do one small act that matches that sentence.
Prayer
Come, Holy Spirit. Open the Scriptures to me as You opened them to the apostles. In Joshua 15:17 I hear, “And Othoniel the son of Cenez, the younger brother of Caleb, took it: and he gave…” Give me understanding, give me desire, and give me the grace to obey with joy. Amen.
