The Church sets before us 1 Chronicles 12:22: “Moreover day by day there came some to David to help him till they became a great number, like the army of God.”
1 Chronicles is part of the long story of salvation. Catholics receive it as inspired Scripture, a word that prepares the heart for Christ and still nourishes the Church. The Catholic way of reading is never solitary for long. We read with the Church, with the saints, and with the poor Christ still loves.
