Theme: Daily Scripture
“And he made temples in the high places, and priests of the lowest of the people, who were not of the sons of Levi.”
Reflection for Today
The Church sets before us 1 Kings 12:31: “And he made temples in the high places, and priests of the lowest of the people, who were not of the sons of Levi.”
A single verse can meet us differently depending on the season we are in: grief, gratitude, fatigue, or new beginnings. 1 Kings is part of the long story of salvation. Catholics receive it as inspired Scripture, a word that prepares the heart for Christ and still nourishes the Church.
God often changes us less by thunder and more by a line of Scripture that will not leave us alone. If possible, bring this line to Mass or to a brief visit before the Blessed Sacrament. Let Christ finish in silence what the verse began in your thoughts.
Prayer
Father of mercies, I bring You this day and this verse from 1 Kings 12:31. As I listen to “And he made temples in the high places, and priests of the lowest of the people, who…,” heal what is anxious in me, correct what is proud, and strengthen what is willing to love. Amen.
