The Church sets before us 1 Maccabees 11:5: “And they told the king that Jonathan had done these things, to make him odious: but the king held his peace.”
1 Maccabees, received in the Catholic canon, shows courage, fidelity, and providence when God's people are tested. Read in Catholic faith, this is not a decorative sentence for social media. It is a living word meant to convert, console, and send us back into ordinary life with a quieter heart.
As you hold this verse, do not force a dramatic feeling. Ask only for faithfulness. Write one sentence of response in a notebook or phone note: what you hear God asking, promising, or healing. Then do one small act that matches that sentence.
Prayer
Father of mercies, I bring You this day and this verse from 1 Maccabees 11:5. As I listen to “And they told the king that Jonathan had done these things, to make him odious: but…,” heal what is anxious in me, correct what is proud, and strengthen what is willing to love. Amen.
