And Solomon did that which was not pleasing before the Lord, and did not fully follow the Lord, as David, his father.

1 Kings 11:6

Reflection for Today

Today's Catholic verse of the day is 1 Kings 11:6: “And Solomon did that which was not pleasing before the Lord, and did not fully follow the Lord, as David, his father.”

Scripture rarely flatters us. It loves us enough to tell the truth, and then it stays with us while we learn to live that truth. 1 Kings is part of the long story of salvation. Catholics receive it as inspired Scripture, a word that prepares the heart for Christ and still nourishes the Church.

God often changes us less by thunder and more by a line of Scripture that will not leave us alone. If possible, bring this line to Mass or to a brief visit before the Blessed Sacrament. Let Christ finish in silence what the verse began in your thoughts.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, Word made flesh, You still teach Your disciples through Sacred Scripture. Through 1 Kings 11:6, let “And Solomon did that which was not pleasing before the Lord, and did not fully…” become more than a memory. Make it light for my work, patience for my home, and courage for my vocation. Amen.
