Reflection for Today
Today's Catholic verse of the day is 2 Maccabees 9:17: “Yea also, that he would become a Jew himself, and would go through every place of the earth, and declare the power of God.”
Scripture rarely flatters us. It loves us enough to tell the truth, and then it stays with us while we learn to live that truth. 2 Maccabees, received in the Catholic canon, shows courage, fidelity, and providence when God's people are tested.
As you hold this verse, do not force a dramatic feeling. Ask only for faithfulness. If the verse convicts you, do not panic. Take it to Confession when you can, or begin with an honest Act of Contrition tonight.
Prayer
Come, Holy Spirit. Open the Scriptures to me as You opened them to the apostles. In 2 Maccabees 9:17 I hear, “Yea also, that he would become a Jew himself, and would go through every place of…” Give me understanding, give me desire, and give me the grace to obey with joy. Amen.
