Let Deuteronomy 7:23 speak first, before our plans and worries do: “But the Lord thy God shall deliver them in thy sight: and shall slay them until they be utterly destroyed.”
Deuteronomy is part of the long story of salvation. Catholics receive it as inspired Scripture, a word that prepares the heart for Christ and still nourishes the Church. A single verse can meet us differently depending on the season we are in: grief, gratitude, fatigue, or new beginnings.
God often changes us less by thunder and more by a line of Scripture that will not leave us alone. If the verse convicts you, do not panic. Take it to Confession when you can, or begin with an honest Act of Contrition tonight.
Prayer
Father of mercies, I bring You this day and this verse from Deuteronomy 7:23. As I listen to “But the Lord thy God shall deliver them in thy sight: and shall slay them until they…,” heal what is anxious in me, correct what is proud, and strengthen what is willing to love. Amen.
