Reflection for Today
Pause with 1 Maccabees 6:58. Hear these words again: “Now, therefore, let us come to an agreement with these men, and make peace with them and with all their nation.”
1 Maccabees, received in the Catholic canon, shows courage, fidelity, and providence when God's people are tested. Many of us carry quiet fear into work, family, and prayer. This verse does not shame that fear. It invites us to bring it into the light of God.
Today's invitation under the theme of Peace is simple and serious. Before the day runs away, sit with this verse for two quiet minutes. Say it slowly. Notice which word stays warm in the heart, and carry that word into one conversation.
Prayer
Come, Holy Spirit. Open the Scriptures to me as You opened them to the apostles. In 1 Maccabees 6:58 I hear, “Now, therefore, let us come to an agreement with these men, and make peace with them…” Give me understanding, give me desire, and give me the grace to obey with joy. Amen.
