Theme: Daily Scripture
“But God prepared a worm, when the morning arose on the following day: and it struck the ivy and it withered.”
Reflection for Today
Let Jonah 4:7 speak first, before our plans and worries do: “But God prepared a worm, when the morning arose on the following day: and it struck the ivy and it withered.”
In Jonah, the prophetic word unsettles comfort and awakens hope. God loves His people enough to call them back, and enough to promise a future. A single verse can meet us differently depending on the season we are in: grief, gratitude, fatigue, or new beginnings.
God often changes us less by thunder and more by a line of Scripture that will not leave us alone. Before the day runs away, sit with this verse for two quiet minutes. Say it slowly. Notice which word stays warm in the heart, and carry that word into one conversation.
Prayer
Come, Holy Spirit. Open the Scriptures to me as You opened them to the apostles. In Jonah 4:7 I hear, “But God prepared a worm, when the morning arose on the following day: and it struck…” Give me understanding, give me desire, and give me the grace to obey with joy. Amen.
