“And the king of Israel said: Alas, alas, alas, the Lord hath gathered us three kings together, to deliver us into the hands of Moab.”
Reflection for Today
Today's Catholic verse of the day is 2 Kings 3:10: “And the king of Israel said: Alas, alas, alas, the Lord hath gathered us three kings together, to deliver us into the hands of Moab.”
Scripture rarely flatters us. It loves us enough to tell the truth, and then it stays with us while we learn to live that truth. 2 Kings is part of the long story of salvation. Catholics receive it as inspired Scripture, a word that prepares the heart for Christ and still nourishes the Church.
If nothing else remains from this page, let one phrase of 2 Kings 3:10 remain. Pray a decade of the Rosary with this verse in mind. Ask Mary to teach you how to keep God's word and ponder it, as she did.
Prayer
Father of mercies, I bring You this day and this verse from 2 Kings 3:10. As I listen to “And the king of Israel said: Alas, alas, alas, the Lord hath gathered us three kings…,” heal what is anxious in me, correct what is proud, and strengthen what is willing to love. Amen.
