Theme: Family

Family

And came to her mother in law; who said to her: What hast thou done, daughter? And she told her all that the man had done to her.

Ruth 3:16

Reflection for Today

Pause with Ruth 3:16. Hear these words again: “And came to her mother in law; who said to her: What hast thou done, daughter? And she told her all that the man had done to her.”

The Catholic way of reading is never solitary for long. We read with the Church, with the saints, and with the poor Christ still loves. Ruth is part of the long story of salvation. Catholics receive it as inspired Scripture, a word that prepares the heart for Christ and still nourishes the Church.

If nothing else remains from this page, let one phrase of Ruth 3:16 remain. If the verse consoles you, do not rush past the comfort. Gratitude is also a form of obedience.

Prayer

Come, Holy Spirit. Open the Scriptures to me as You opened them to the apostles. In Ruth 3:16 I hear, “And came to her mother in law; who said to her: What hast thou done, daughter? And…” Give me understanding, give me desire, and give me the grace to obey with joy. Amen.
