Theme: Light of the World
“The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood: before the great and dreadful day of the Lord doth come.”
Reflection for Today
Today's Catholic verse of the day is Joel 2:31: “The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood: before the great and dreadful day of the Lord doth come.”
In Joel, the prophetic word unsettles comfort and awakens hope. God loves His people enough to call them back, and enough to promise a future. A single verse can meet us differently depending on the season we are in: grief, gratitude, fatigue, or new beginnings.
As you hold this verse, do not force a dramatic feeling. Ask only for faithfulness. If the verse convicts you, do not panic. Take it to Confession when you can, or begin with an honest Act of Contrition tonight.
Prayer
Father of mercies, I bring You this day and this verse from Joel 2:31. As I listen to “The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood: before the great and…,” heal what is anxious in me, correct what is proud, and strengthen what is willing to love. Amen.
