Theme: Daily Scripture
“Hath not this been done to thee, because thou hast forsaken the Lord thy God at that time, when he led thee by the way?”
Reflection for Today
Let Jeremiah 2:17 speak first, before our plans and worries do: “Hath not this been done to thee, because thou hast forsaken the Lord thy God at that time, when he led thee by the way?”
Scripture rarely flatters us. It loves us enough to tell the truth, and then it stays with us while we learn to live that truth. In Jeremiah, the prophetic word unsettles comfort and awakens hope. God loves His people enough to call them back, and enough to promise a future.
As you hold this verse, do not force a dramatic feeling. Ask only for faithfulness. If possible, bring this line to Mass or to a brief visit before the Blessed Sacrament. Let Christ finish in silence what the verse began in your thoughts.
Prayer
Father of mercies, I bring You this day and this verse from Jeremiah 2:17. As I listen to “Hath not this been done to thee, because thou hast forsaken the Lord thy God at that…,” heal what is anxious in me, correct what is proud, and strengthen what is willing to love. Amen.
