Theme: Work & Service
“Is it not better to eat and drink, and to shew his soul good things of his labours? and this is from the hand of God.”
Reflection for Today
The Church sets before us Ecclesiastes 2:24: “Is it not better to eat and drink, and to shew his soul good things of his labours? and this is from the hand of God.”
Ecclesiastes belongs to the wisdom books, where faith meets daily decisions. Holiness is not only for extraordinary moments; it is learned in ordinary choices. The Catholic way of reading is never solitary for long. We read with the Church, with the saints, and with the poor Christ still loves.
God often changes us less by thunder and more by a line of Scripture that will not leave us alone. Write one sentence of response in a notebook or phone note: what you hear God asking, promising, or healing. Then do one small act that matches that sentence.
Prayer
Lord God, thank You for speaking through Ecclesiastes 2:24. You said, “Is it not better to eat and drink, and to shew his soul good things of his labours?…” I do not want to rush past these words. Quiet my mind, warm my heart, and help me live what I have heard with faith, hope, and charity. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
