Catholic Verse of the Day

Isaiah 1:20

Douay-Rheims Catholic Bible verse for Monday, September 21, 2026, with reflection, prayer, and a link to the full chapter.

Theme: Daily Scripture

But if you will not, and will provoke me to wrath: the sword shall devour you because the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.

Isaiah 1:20

Reflection for Today

Pause with Isaiah 1:20. Hear these words again: “But if you will not, and will provoke me to wrath: the sword shall devour you because the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.”

The Catholic way of reading is never solitary for long. We read with the Church, with the saints, and with the poor Christ still loves. In Isaiah, the prophetic word unsettles comfort and awakens hope. God loves His people enough to call them back, and enough to promise a future.

God often changes us less by thunder and more by a line of Scripture that will not leave us alone. Share this verse with someone who needs encouragement, not as advice from above, but as a gift you yourself are trying to live.

Prayer

Come, Holy Spirit. Open the Scriptures to me as You opened them to the apostles. In Isaiah 1:20 I hear, “But if you will not, and will provoke me to wrath: the sword shall devour you…” Give me understanding, give me desire, and give me the grace to obey with joy. Amen.
