Catholic Verse of the Day

Ezra 1:7

Douay-Rheims Catholic Bible verse for Wednesday, September 9, 2026, with reflection, prayer, and a link to the full chapter.

Theme: Daily Scripture

And king Cyrus brought forth vessels of the temple of the Lord, which Nabuchodonosor had taken from Jerusalem, and had put them in the temple of his god.

Ezra 1:7

Reflection for Today

The Church sets before us Ezra 1:7: “And king Cyrus brought forth vessels of the temple of the Lord, which Nabuchodonosor had taken from Jerusalem, and had put them in the temple of his god.”

A single verse can meet us differently depending on the season we are in: grief, gratitude, fatigue, or new beginnings. Ezra is part of the long story of salvation. Catholics receive it as inspired Scripture, a word that prepares the heart for Christ and still nourishes the Church.

Today's invitation under the theme of Daily Scripture is simple and serious. If the verse convicts you, do not panic. Take it to Confession when you can, or begin with an honest Act of Contrition tonight.

Prayer

Father of mercies, I bring You this day and this verse from Ezra 1:7. As I listen to “And king Cyrus brought forth vessels of the temple of the Lord, which Nabuchodonosor…,” heal what is anxious in me, correct what is proud, and strengthen what is willing to love. Amen.
