On December 12, 2026, the Church celebrates the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe—Empress of the Americas, Star of the New Evangelization, and Mother who appeared to the indigenous saint Juan Diego on Tepeyac hill in 1531.

Her image on the tilma proclaims Christ to the peoples of the Americas: the Virgin bears the Savior in her womb, clothed with the sun, calling all to conversion and unity.

When Is Our Lady of Guadalupe 2026?

December 12 every year. In 2026, it falls on a Saturday. It is not a holy day of obligation in the United States, but it is a major feast—especially in parishes with Mexican and Latin American communities, often with Mañanitas, roses, and processions.

The Apparitions in Brief

Between December 9 and 12, 1531, Mary appeared to Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin. She asked for a church to be built and left her image miraculously on his cloak when roses fell in winter. The bishop recognized the sign; millions converted, and the Gospel was received in indigenous dignity—not as cultural erasure but as fulfillment.

Mary’s words “Am I not here, I who am your mother?” continue to comfort migrants, the poor, and the unborn.

Scripture and Guadalupe

  • Revelation 12:1 — woman clothed with the sun (liturgical echo, not proof-text alone)
  • Luke 1:38 — Mary’s fiat, mirrored in her maternal mission at Tepeyac
  • Galatians 3:28 — all one in Christ; Guadalupe united peoples under Christ

How to Celebrate December 12, 2026

  1. Attend Mass or a parish celebration if offered.
  2. Pray the nine-day novena (often beginning December 4).
  3. Offer roses or flowers in honor of Mary’s sign to Juan Diego.
  4. Pray for the unborn and for mothers — Guadalupe is a powerful patron of life.
  5. Support immigrants and the marginalized as a work of mercy.

Prayer to Our Lady of Guadalupe
