North American Martyrs Novena – Day 1: Jesuit Vocation

Join in praying the North American Martyrs Novena to seek their intercession and powerful help.

Today's Focus: Jesuit Vocation

On this first day of the North American Martyrs Novena, we pray for the grace to imitate the love of God shown by the North American Martyrs in choosing to serve as Jesuits. We ask them to help us understand the beauty of religious vocation and total dedication to God.

Prayer for Day 1

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.

Dear Lord, we thank You for giving us the North American Martyrs as examples of holiness. Help us to imitate the love of You they showed in choosing to serve you in the Jesuit religious order.

North American Martyrs, you chose to enter the Jesuit religious order as priests and lay brothers. You wished to devote yourself wholeheartedly to God as members of the Jesuit religious order.

Please bring my petitions before God Whom you served so wholeheartedly!

You devoted yourself to missionary work among hostile native peoples. Though you faced great dangers and sufferings, you persevered in your love for God and your holy work.

Pray for me, that I may devote myself as wholeheartedly to serving God as you did. Pray that I may never weary of doing all I can to serve God.

Please also pray for (mention your intentions here).

North American Martyrs, pray for us!

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.

Reflection for Today

Today we pray for the grace to imitate the love of God shown by the North American Martyrs in choosing to serve as Jesuits. Their decision to enter religious life was a profound act of love and trust in God.

The North American Martyrs - St. Isaac Jogues, St. Jean de Brébeuf, St. Gabriel Lalemant, St. Antoine Daniel, St. Charles Garnier, St. Noël Chabanel, St. René Goupil, and St. Jean de Lalande - all chose to serve God as members of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits).

Their Jesuit vocation was not just a career choice, but a complete surrender to God's will. They understood that religious life was a call to total dedication, to give everything to God and His service.

As we begin this novena, let us ask the North American Martyrs to help us understand the beauty of vocation and to inspire us to serve God wholeheartedly in whatever way He calls us.

Remember that every Christian is called to holiness, whether in religious life, priesthood, or lay vocation. The key is to serve God with the same wholehearted devotion that the martyrs showed.
