On this eighth day of the Divine Mercy Novena, we pray for the souls in purgatory - those who have died in God's grace but still need purification before entering heaven. We ask Jesus to pour out His mercy upon them and bring them to the fullness of His love.
Prayer for Day 8
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Opening Prayer:
Most Merciful Jesus, You Yourself have said that You desire mercy; so I bring into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart the souls in Purgatory, souls who are very dear to You, and yet, who must make retribution to Your justice. May the streams of Blood and Water which gushed forth from Your Heart put out the flames of Purgatory, that there, too, the power of Your mercy may be celebrated.
Prayer for Souls in Purgatory:
O omnipotence of Divine Mercy, help of those who are falling, raise up all who have fallen, and assist those who rise. Let all who recognize the warmth of Your Heart feel the effects of Your mercy. Do not look upon how many, but upon what love and what repentance they bring with them.
Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the souls suffering in Purgatory, who are enfolded in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. I beg You, by the sorrowful Passion of Jesus Your Son, and by all the bitterness with which His most sacred Soul was flooded: Manifest Your mercy to the souls who are under Your just scrutiny. Look upon them in no other way but only through the Wounds of Jesus, Your dearly beloved Son; for we firmly believe that there is no limit to Your goodness and compassion. Amen.

Jesus, I trust in You. Help me to pray with love for the souls in purgatory, and may Your mercy bring them quickly to the fullness of Your love. May I also remember to pray for them throughout my life. Amen.
Reflection for Today
Today we pray for the souls in purgatory - those who have died in God's grace but still need purification before entering heaven. These souls are very dear to Jesus, and yet they must make retribution to His justice.
Purgatory is not a place of punishment, but a place of purification. It's like a hospital where souls are healed of their imperfections so they can enter heaven completely pure and holy. The souls in purgatory are saved - they will go to heaven - but they need our prayers to help them get there faster.
