Called to Radical Discipleship
Religious life is a radical response to Christ's invitation: "If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me." (Matthew 19:21)
The Catechism teaches: "The religious state is thus one way of experiencing a more intimate consecration, rooted in Baptism and dedicated totally to God." (CCC 916)
You have chosen—or rather, been chosen—to follow Christ in a total way. Your life is a sign to the Church and the world that God alone is enough.
St. Teresa of Ávila wrote: "Let nothing disturb you, let nothing frighten you. All things pass away: God never changes. Patience obtains all things. Whoever has God lacks nothing; God alone suffices."
This is the heart of religious life: God alone suffices.
📖 Scripture
Matthew 19:21 - "Jesus said to him, If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me."
🙏 Prayer
Lord, thank You for calling me to religious life. Help me to follow You radically, holding nothing back. May my life proclaim that You alone are enough. Amen.
