Configured to Christ
At your ordination, you were configured to Christ the Head and Shepherd. You act in His person when you celebrate the sacraments.
The Catechism teaches: "Through the ordained ministry, especially that of bishops and priests, the presence of Christ as head of the Church is made visible in the midst of the community of believers." (CCC 1549)
This is an awesome responsibility and an incredible gift. When you say "This is my body," Christ speaks through you. When you absolve sins, Christ forgives through you.
St. John Vianney said: "The priest is not a priest for himself; he does not give himself absolution; he does not administer the Sacraments to himself. He is not for himself, he is for you."
Never forget the dignity of your calling. You are another Christ.
📖 Scripture
2 Corinthians 5:20 - "Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us."
🙏 Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for calling me to share in Your priesthood. Help me to be a worthy instrument of Your grace. May I decrease so that You may increase. Amen.
