Parenting with the Saints

by Catholic Bible Online

Many saints were also parents who raised holy children. These reflections draw from their wisdom and example, offering practical guidance for Catholic parents seeking to raise their children in the faith.

The Vocation of Parenthood

Parenthood is a vocation—a calling from God. When you became a parent, you received a sacred mission: to guide your children to heaven.

The Catechism teaches: "Parents have the first responsibility for the education of their children. They bear witness to this responsibility first by creating a home where tenderness, forgiveness, respect, fidelity, and disinterested service are the rule." (CCC 2223)

Saints Louis and Zélie Martin, parents of St. Thérèse of Lisieux, understood this. They created a home saturated with faith, where prayer was as natural as breathing.

Zélie wrote: "I want to become a saint. It will not be easy... but I want to work at it. I want my children to be saints."

Your primary job as a parent is not to make your children successful, popular, or wealthy. It is to help them become saints.

đź“– Scripture

Proverbs 22:6 - "Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it."

🙏 Prayer

Lord, help me to embrace my vocation as a parent. Give me wisdom to guide my children to You. May our home be a school of holiness. Sts. Louis and Zélie, pray for us. Amen.
