Our Hearts Are Restless
"You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you."
These famous words open Augustine's Confessions and capture the central theme of his life and thought. We are made for God, and nothing else can satisfy the deepest longings of our hearts.
Augustine tried to fill the void in his heart with many things—pleasure, ambition, philosophy, human love. But none of these could give him lasting peace. Only when he surrendered to God did he find the rest his soul craved.
This restlessness is not a curse but a gift. It is God's way of drawing us to Himself. The dissatisfaction we feel with earthly things is a sign that we are made for something greater—for eternal union with God.
Do you feel restless? Do you sense that something is missing in your life? This is the voice of God calling you to Himself. Do not try to silence it with distractions. Let it lead you to the One who alone can satisfy your heart.

Lord, my heart is restless until it rests in You. I have sought happiness in many places, but only You can satisfy the deepest longings of my soul. Draw me to Yourself. Help me to find in You the peace and joy I seek. Amen.
