Recovery & Redemption

by Catholic Bible Online

Addiction is a disease that affects body, mind, and spirit. Recovery requires healing on all levels. These reflections offer Catholic spiritual support for those struggling with addiction, drawing on the Church's rich tradition of grace, mercy, and transformation.

Admitting Powerlessness

The first step of recovery is admitting that we are powerless over our addiction. This is not weakness but wisdom—the beginning of healing.

St. Paul experienced this: "For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing." (Romans 7:19)

Addiction hijacks our will. We cannot simply "decide" to stop. We need help beyond ourselves.

This admission opens the door to grace. When we acknowledge our powerlessness, we become ready to receive God's power.

Jesus said: "Apart from me you can do nothing." (John 15:5)

You are not alone in your struggle. God sees you, loves you, and wants to set you free.

đź“– Scripture

2 Corinthians 12:9 - "But he said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness."

🙏 Prayer

Lord, I admit that I am powerless over my addiction. I cannot free myself. I need Your help. Come to my aid and begin my healing. Amen.
