“Thou shalt make also a plate of the purest gold: wherein thou shalt grave with engraver's work, Holy to the Lord.”
Reflection for Today
The Church sets before us Exodus 28:36: “Thou shalt make also a plate of the purest gold: wherein thou shalt grave with engraver's work, Holy to the Lord.”
A single verse can meet us differently depending on the season we are in: grief, gratitude, fatigue, or new beginnings. Exodus is part of the long story of salvation. Catholics receive it as inspired Scripture, a word that prepares the heart for Christ and still nourishes the Church.
If nothing else remains from this page, let one phrase of Exodus 28:36 remain. Before the day runs away, sit with this verse for two quiet minutes. Say it slowly. Notice which word stays warm in the heart, and carry that word into one conversation.
Prayer
Come, Holy Spirit. Open the Scriptures to me as You opened them to the apostles. In Exodus 28:36 I hear, “Thou shalt make also a plate of the purest gold: wherein thou shalt grave with…” Give me understanding, give me desire, and give me the grace to obey with joy. Amen.
