And the children of Benjamin coming out of Gabaa slew of the children of Israel that day two and twenty thousand men.

Judges 20:21

Reflection for Today

Pause with Judges 20:21. Hear these words again: “And the children of Benjamin coming out of Gabaa slew of the children of Israel that day two and twenty thousand men.”

Judges is part of the long story of salvation. Catholics receive it as inspired Scripture, a word that prepares the heart for Christ and still nourishes the Church. Scripture rarely flatters us. It loves us enough to tell the truth, and then it stays with us while we learn to live that truth.

As you hold this verse, do not force a dramatic feeling. Ask only for faithfulness. If the verse consoles you, do not rush past the comfort. Gratitude is also a form of obedience.

Prayer

Lord God, thank You for speaking through Judges 20:21. You said, “And the children of Benjamin coming out of Gabaa slew of the children of Israel that…” I do not want to rush past these words. Quiet my mind, warm my heart, and help me live what I have heard with faith, hope, and charity. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
