Theme: Daily Scripture
“And as Abdias was in the way, Elias met him: and he knew him, and fell on his face, and said: Art thou my lord Elias?”
Reflection for Today
Let 1 Kings 18:7 speak first, before our plans and worries do: “And as Abdias was in the way, Elias met him: and he knew him, and fell on his face, and said: Art thou my lord Elias?”
Scripture rarely flatters us. It loves us enough to tell the truth, and then it stays with us while we learn to live that truth. 1 Kings is part of the long story of salvation. Catholics receive it as inspired Scripture, a word that prepares the heart for Christ and still nourishes the Church.
If nothing else remains from this page, let one phrase of 1 Kings 18:7 remain. If the verse convicts you, do not panic. Take it to Confession when you can, or begin with an honest Act of Contrition tonight.
Prayer
Holy Trinity, I receive today's verse with the Church. Keep 1 Kings 18:7 close to me. Let “And as Abdias was in the way, Elias met him: and he knew him, and fell on his face,…” guard my thoughts from morning until night, and let my life quietly agree with Your word. Amen.
