Reflection for Today
The Church sets before us Matthew 12:1: “At that time Jesus went through the corn on the sabbath: and his disciples being hungry, began to pluck the ears, and to eat.”
Matthew does not give us a distant memory of Jesus. It places us in His company, where every word can become prayer. Read in Catholic faith, this is not a decorative sentence for social media. It is a living word meant to convert, console, and send us back into ordinary life with a quieter heart.
As you hold this verse, do not force a dramatic feeling. Ask only for faithfulness. If the verse consoles you, do not rush past the comfort. Gratitude is also a form of obedience.
Prayer
Come, Holy Spirit. Open the Scriptures to me as You opened them to the apostles. In Matthew 12:1 I hear, “At that time Jesus went through the corn on the sabbath: and his disciples being…” Give me understanding, give me desire, and give me the grace to obey with joy. Amen.
