Catholic Verse of the Day

1 Corinthians 8:8

Douay-Rheims Catholic Bible verse for Thursday, November 25, 2027, with reflection, prayer, and a link to the full chapter.

Theme: Daily Scripture

But meat doth not commend us to God. For neither, if we eat, shall we have the more: nor, if we eat not, shall we have the less.

1 Corinthians 8:8

Reflection for Today

The Church sets before us 1 Corinthians 8:8: “But meat doth not commend us to God. For neither, if we eat, shall we have the more: nor, if we eat not, shall we have the less.”

A single verse can meet us differently depending on the season we are in: grief, gratitude, fatigue, or new beginnings. 1 Corinthians comes from the apostolic age, when the first communities were learning how to live the Gospel in ordinary struggles. The Church still listens here for guidance.

As you hold this verse, do not force a dramatic feeling. Ask only for faithfulness. Before the day runs away, sit with this verse for two quiet minutes. Say it slowly. Notice which word stays warm in the heart, and carry that word into one conversation.

Prayer

Holy Trinity, I receive today's verse with the Church. Keep 1 Corinthians 8:8 close to me. Let “But meat doth not commend us to God. For neither, if we eat, shall we have the more:…” guard my thoughts from morning until night, and let my life quietly agree with Your word. Amen.
