Theme: Daily Scripture
“And they read in the book of the law of God distinctly and plainly to be understood: and they understood when it was read.”
Reflection for Today
Let Nehemiah 8:8 speak first, before our plans and worries do: “And they read in the book of the law of God distinctly and plainly to be understood: and they understood when it was read.”
Scripture rarely flatters us. It loves us enough to tell the truth, and then it stays with us while we learn to live that truth. Nehemiah is part of the long story of salvation. Catholics receive it as inspired Scripture, a word that prepares the heart for Christ and still nourishes the Church.
God often changes us less by thunder and more by a line of Scripture that will not leave us alone. Share this verse with someone who needs encouragement, not as advice from above, but as a gift you yourself are trying to live.
Prayer
Come, Holy Spirit. Open the Scriptures to me as You opened them to the apostles. In Nehemiah 8:8 I hear, “And they read in the book of the law of God distinctly and plainly to be understood:…” Give me understanding, give me desire, and give me the grace to obey with joy. Amen.
