Theme: Daily Scripture
“And on the five and twentieth day of the month they sacrificed upon the altar of the idol that was over against the altar of God.”
Reflection for Today
The Church sets before us 1 Maccabees 1:62: “And on the five and twentieth day of the month they sacrificed upon the altar of the idol that was over against the altar of God.”
A single verse can meet us differently depending on the season we are in: grief, gratitude, fatigue, or new beginnings. 1 Maccabees, received in the Catholic canon, shows courage, fidelity, and providence when God's people are tested.
If nothing else remains from this page, let one phrase of 1 Maccabees 1:62 remain. If the verse consoles you, do not rush past the comfort. Gratitude is also a form of obedience.
Prayer
Holy Trinity, I receive today's verse with the Church. Keep 1 Maccabees 1:62 close to me. Let “And on the five and twentieth day of the month they sacrificed upon the altar of the…” guard my thoughts from morning until night, and let my life quietly agree with Your word. Amen.
