Theme: Wisdom
“Shall not I in that day, saith the Lord, destroy the wise out of Edom, and understanding out of the mount of Esau?”
Reflection for Today
The Church sets before us Obadiah 1:8: “Shall not I in that day, saith the Lord, destroy the wise out of Edom, and understanding out of the mount of Esau?”
In Obadiah, the prophetic word unsettles comfort and awakens hope. God loves His people enough to call them back, and enough to promise a future. Wisdom in the Bible is rarely flashy. It looks like restraint, good counsel, and the humility to ask for help before a decision hardens.
If nothing else remains from this page, let one phrase of Obadiah 1:8 remain. Pray a decade of the Rosary with this verse in mind. Ask Mary to teach you how to keep God's word and ponder it, as she did.
Prayer
Father of mercies, I bring You this day and this verse from Obadiah 1:8. As I listen to “Shall not I in that day, saith the Lord, destroy the wise out of Edom, and…,” heal what is anxious in me, correct what is proud, and strengthen what is willing to love. Amen.
