Intercessory Prayer Warriors: Fighting Spiritual Battles

By Catholic Bible Online

What is a Prayer Warrior?

A prayer warrior is someone who takes seriously the call to intercessory prayer and spiritual warfare. They understand that prayer is not just a passive activity, but an active engagement in the spiritual battle between good and evil. Prayer warriors are committed to praying for others, especially those who are struggling, lost, or under spiritual attack.

Saint Paul describes this spiritual battle in Ephesians 6:12: 'For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.'

The Armor of God for Prayer Warriors

To be effective prayer warriors, we must put on the full armor of God. This includes the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Each piece of armor protects us and enables us to pray effectively. The truth keeps us grounded in God's Word, righteousness protects our hearts, and faith shields us from doubt and discouragement.

Praying for the Lost

One of the most important ministries of prayer warriors is praying for those who don't know Christ. We pray for their conversion, for opportunities to share the Gospel, and for God to soften their hearts.

Saint Monica prayed for her son Augustine for 17 years before he converted. Her persistent prayers were answered, and Augustine became one of the greatest saints and theologians of the Church.

Praying for Protection

Prayer warriors also pray for protection - protection from evil, from temptation, from physical and spiritual harm. We pray for our families, our communities, our Church, and our world.

The Rosary is a powerful weapon for protection. Our Lady of Fatima asked us to pray the Rosary daily for peace and for the conversion of sinners.

Conclusion

Being a prayer warrior is a high calling that requires commitment, faith, and love. It's not about being perfect, but about being faithful in prayer. Let us take up this mantle and fight the good fight through intercessory prayer.
